The 847 is a direct competitor to the BP and the 860 is a horizontal/vertical machine of the same size. They also are making a line of CNC vertical and horizontal mills. I saw two 847s from a high school shop in real good shape go for less than $2000 apeice recently. Seems the best deals come along when the only thing in my pockets is lint.

Anyways, every morning was a rush to call dibs on a milling machine. There was one Lagun milling machine in the whole shop of roughly 100 vertical mills. Look for a Bridgeport or Bridgeport clone made in Taiwan. The Taiwan machines are much better quality then the Chinese to the point that they can exceed an original Bridgeport knee mill for accuracy. You need weight for accuracy, floor model. 9x42 will do but a 10x50 allows more room for clamping to the table.

They're still listed for sale on Hardinge's web site alongside modern CNC VMC's as the "Series 1": MSC will sell you a knee mill made by Hardinge-Bridgeport for the low price of just over $20,000 . I don't know how many are still being sold at that price point given you can buy a decent clone for circa $5000.
